PESHAWAR, Pakistan — Village elders burned a 16-year-old girl to death in rural Pakistan after she helped a local couple elope, police said Thursday. Deputy Inspector General of Police Saeed Khan Wazir said the victim’s mother and 15 members of a village jirga — a group that resolves local disputes based on its interpretation of Islam — were arrested on Wednesday over the crime.
Where is the “peace” in this religious act ?

  1. Can you imagine being burned alive? And that this child’s own mother could participate in that? There is no value for life, only for following the rules. 😦

    • It has to be the worst way to go. I forced myself once (a few years ago now) to watch the burning of three “accused” witches in Nigeria, a man and what looked like two women. It just goes on and on and on and on. Of course, simply burning the skin does not kill a person.

  2. I can’t imagine , Ruth !

Where is the value of life when certain sects of Christians withhold medical treatment or blood transfusions from their children ?

I don’t want to “grade” degrees of horror here. Extremism in any religion is horrific.

I’m sure it goes without saying that I totally agree! I can’t imagine my child suffering in any way and me not doing everything in my power to make it stop.

  3. That poor, poor thing. At moments like this I loathe our species.

  4. “At moments like this I loathe our species.”

At moments like these, I am sobered by how primitive our species still is.
