Two of my favorite blog pals Victoria NeuroNotes and Ark A Tale Unfolds this week in separate occasions made statements which caused me to write this post. First Victoria quoted Psychology Today, “such as Scandinavia, Japan, Australia, the Netherlands, etc., are faring much better on nearly every single indicator of well-being imaginable than the most religious nations on earth today. ” While I don’t disagree with this statement, I am always pressed to know , “is there more ?” This morning at Ark’s blog, he said (about his country of South Africa), ““This is not the type of country where one leaves one’s door/gate open I’m afraid; unless you want uninvited wealth distribution agents at your door every five minutes.”
So I decided to look at the countries who appear to be the happiest and have the best personal well being and discovered some other interesting attributes.
According to The UN’s Sustainable Development Solutions Network the top 10 Happiest Countries for 2016 are:
1) Denmark
2) Switzerland
3) Iceland
4) Norway
5) Finland
6) Canada
7) The Netherlands
8) New Zealand
9) Australia
10) Sweden
Searching further, I found this interesting article describing 6 reasons why these countries are so happy.
I know the good ol USA should consider these 6 reasons . Your countries too ? 🙂
I had just commented on Ark’s latest post about godless societies when I got notification of your post. 🙂
You know, I don’t write about religion because I’m out to destroy someone’s faith. I write about religion because I genuinely care about the well being of humanity and our home, planet Eath.
Ken, thank you for this post.

I am amazed when I read conservative and very often Christian/religious blogs that claim ”Lefties” need to stop pandering to those members of society who want free/cheap medical, somehow deeming them lazy freeloaders.
A secure, sound Welfare State is a must and when you consider the amounts of money countries like the USA spend on Arms it is patently absurd than anyone should fall through the health net because of lack of funds.
One of my best mates who I apprenticed with in the UK just underwent heart surgery on the National Health.
If it were not free he would not of sought help ( according to him) and put his chest pains down to overwork.
He directly attributes the National Health and the marvelous medical; team for saving his life.
A society without genuine empathy for the well being of its members will surely destroy itself because of misguided self-interest.
